Polyester

Depending on processing and type of material, polyesters are available in an amorphous-transparent or crystalline-opaque form. As we specialize in technical plastics, we mainly offer non-transparent and opaque engineering materials, with the exception of polycarbonate (PC).

  • good strength
  • high rigidity and hardness
  • low impact strength
  • very good creep resistance
  • very low thermal expansion
  • dimensional stability
  • good chemical resistance to acids
  • very good sliding / friction characteristics
  • wear resistant
  • very low moisture absorption

Ensinger offers the following Polyesters:

TECAPET (PET)

In its molecular structure, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) - TECAPET - is available either as an amorphous or semi-crystalline thermoplastic. Whereas the amorphous type is highly transparent and has a lower mechanical strength, as well as substantially inferior sliding characteristics than the semi-crystalline type, semi-crystalline types have higher hardness, rigidity and strength with outstanding sliding behaviour and low sliding wear (compared to POM in damp or dry environments).

Due to its good creep strength, low moisture absorption and outstanding dimensional stability, PET is extremely well-suited for applications where complex parts and the highest requirements regarding dimensional accuracy and surface quality are needed.

  • high strength
  • high rigidity and hardness
  • very low moisture absorption
  • very low creep resistance
  • very high dimensional stability
  • low sliding friction and sliding wear
  • resistant to hydrolysis (up to +70 °C)
  • not suitable for contact with media containing >50% alcohol
  • good adhesion and welding ability

TECADUR PBT (PBT)

Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) - TECADUR PBT - is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic of the polyester family, which crystallizes very slowly and is therefore available in an amorphous-transparent or crystalline-opaque condition, depending on the processing method.
PBT is particularly characterized by its high strength, rigidity and thermal deformation resistance, as well as its very high dimensional stability and low tendency to creep. Furthermore, PBT, like all polyesters, has very good frictional and wearing properties. Compared to PET, PBT has a better impact strength - particularly at low temperatures.

  • high strength and rigidity
  • dimensionally stable
  • low tendency to creep
  • very good frictional and wear resistance
  • good impact strength
  • very low coefficient of thermal expansion
  • good chemical resistance to acids
  • very good electrical characteristics
  • very low moisture absorption
  • good adhesion and welding ability

TECANAT (PC)

Polycarbonate (PC) - TECANAT - is an amorphous polymer of the polyester family. Due to its low degree of crystallinity, PC has a high degree of transparency. PC is characterized by high strength, rigidity and hardness. Furthermore, PC is also very impact resistant.
By comparison to its chemical resistance, this material is very resistant to external influences such as weather and UV-radiation.

  • high mechanical strength
  • very good creep strength
  • very high impact strength, even at low temperatures
  • maintains its rigidity over a wide range of temperatures
  • very high dimensional accuracy
  • very good resistance to weathering
  • good electrical insulation properties
